Happy New Year to everyone, Its the first time we have ever had a transitional season and now its onwards and upwards to Summer Rugby, lets all get prepared for the start in March and give it our best shot to keep true to the Club motto Reaching Forward . We will all be doing this for the first time ever and there will be teething troubles but lets all work together and talk to each other so we avoid any needless clashing of games and training sessions etc. Thanks to All for the hard work last year and lets keep up the great effort throughout the Summer Season.

U9s travelled to Dewsbury Moor on a wintry morning and belied the conditions to score plenty of tries.

MoM Luke Barlow led an impressive tackling effort with great line-speed and had strong go forward along with Top Tackler Jaden Barraclough, who also scored 2 tries. Special Effort went to Dylan Goodward for a non-stop display of running and tackling, and Magic Moment to Daniel Taylor for a try-making offload, although he also scored himself and made hard yards all game.

Elliot Watson scored 2 good tries and the final try was from Kieran Smith who ran hard all game. Taylor Mail was Opposition MoM for his elusive running and ball skills.

The weather was very difficult for all the young players, but Wilson Martin, Taylor Mail, Fynnley Wilson, Josef Blythe, Kian Dickens, Ethan Harrington and Jack Burton all kept going and restricted the hosts to a couple of scores. Another great team effort with all the boys keeping going for each other and making the spectators proud.

U9s entertained East Leeds and like the previous 3 games with them it was a tough yet fair game. The young Sharks has a wake up call going 2 tries behind quite early, but then ran in four good tries from Taylor Mail, Jaden Barraclough, Dylan Goodward and Elliot Watson, before conceding a late effort.

MoM Daniel Taylor had a powerful game featuring good offloads, one for Special Effort winner Dylan Goodward to scorch down the touchline. Top Tackler Kieran Smith kept on top of the opposition with some brave hits, Magic Moment went to Taylor Mail for his solo try and Top Trainer was Harrison Green who has taken on a new role in the team. Good contributions were also made by Wilson Martin, Fynnley Wilson, Luke Barlow, Josef Blythe, Kian Dickens, Ethan Harrington, Jacob Mort-Firth and Jack Burton.

Another good team effort, which was hampered by having to rotate the players to give everyone game time, but the team spirit of the boys saw them home.

U9s gave their most impressive performance so far at Castleford Panthers and ran in 4 tries.

Ethan Harrington (1 try) changed his style and was an outstanding MoM, forming a great duo with Top Tackler Jaden Barraclough who tore into the opposition attack – they made over 30 tackles each. Special Effort went to Luke Barlow for 24 tough tackles, and Magic Moment to Elliot Watson who saved a try, drove several attacks back and scored 2 tries himself. Kian Dickens was Top Trainer for another good week in which he has really tried hard for the team and started to believe in himself.

The boys were really up for it and organised themselves brilliantly, with Harrison Green, Kieran Smith, Wilson Martin, Taylor Mail, Fynnley Wilson, Josef Blythe, Daniel Taylor (1 try), Dylan Goodward and Jack Burton all keeping the home team from scoring and driving the ball relentlessly upfield.

A great effort and all the boys played out of their skins !

The Presidents induction day was fantastic, with Mike STEVO Stephenson being appointed as our new President, Pete Emmett conducted the proceedings and tributes were paid to our late President Alan Lanacaster  before Mayor of Kirklees Councillor Eric Firth opened our Hall of fame with 14 former Shaw Cross Players being installed, every one of them former International players, BARLA International photos were presented to the Club by Spen Allison (BARLA Chairman) and our own Mick Turner who Coached and now Manages the BARLA International sides, Dougie presented Mike Stephenson officially as the Club President before Pete Emmett offered a STEVO This is Your Life presentation in his own unique style, STEVO presented Long Service Awards to Mandy Turner, Jeanette Smith and Susan Smith with Alan Smith presenting awards to Tracy Grimwood, Andy Stott and Jonny Burland, it would have been great for all club members to attend but capacity is limited and every age group was represented , the Junior members attending conducted themselves impeccably and should be really proud of themselves for such respectful and attentive behaviour in a long presentaion ceremony well done everyone.

Sharks U15s made amends for a below par performance at Queensbury 2 weeks ago with a near perfect game to win the 2 points, the coaches were really pleased and good completion coupled with some solid defence saw them win 22-5 and leapfrog Queensbury to top the table, some outstanding performers were Ben D'Abreu and Sam Ottewell, Ben works non -stop and Sam smashed some big guys in tackles for a scrum half , the game was physical and the Sharks stuck to  the task with tries from Luke Powell(2) Declan Brereton who played strongly and a good finish from the hard working Harrison Pratt from a pinpoint kick from Keiran Boulton who had a top game, the Sharks played with real enthusiasm and were gutted to concede a try but Queensbury are a good side who do not give in and this result was deserved by a a team who are improving and will hopefully go on to bring some glory to the club in the future, Tom Swift, Jake Townsend and Dale Smith ran strongly with Tom Griffiths making several line breaks, Jay Webster scared the opposition with his speed and kicked superbly to convert 3 tries, Eddie Macina was safe at full back and Brandon Bates, Harry Webster, Jordan Sullivan and Adam Hirst all contributed to a fine win and took the Sharks to the top of the table this week. The U15s are away to Castleford Panthers this Sunday.

U15s had a bizarre game today with a terrible first half going in 20-0 down, in the 2nd half the team were fired up and went from zero to heroes with an outstanding turnaround, the spectators watching must have been baffled by the performance but they were outstanding in the 2nd half and completely dominated the Hunslet Warriors after the poor 1st half . Eddie Macina, Jake Townsend, Luke Powell, Decalan Brererton and Tom Griffiths scored tries with 5 goals from Jay Webster but the attitude in the 2nd half was the key, the Sharks felt annoyed by a few dodgy calls from the Referee in the first half and when half time came they took the attitude that our 13 could beat their 14, a superb performance in the 2nd half saw the Sharks play some dynamic and skillfull rugby which saw the home side stunned and bewildered , a well earned 2 points and a good indicator of things to come for these talented players.

U9s enjoyed a very good match against Kippax Welfare, with Jaden Barraclough scoring 2 tries in a great MoM perfomance featuring strong running and textbook tackling.

Top Tackler Ethan Harrington made a series of big hits and kept the centre of the field secure, supported by Kieran Smith who was awarded Special Effort for his solid tackling on the right. Magic Moment went to Dylan Goodward for some great 1-on-1 hits and Top Trainer was Taylor Mail who has worked hard all week and always wants to try something new.

The defensive effort was superb – the boys organised themselves really well, and Harrison Green, Elliot Watson, Wilson Martin, Fynnley Wilson, Luke Barlow, Kian Dickens, Daniel Taylor and Jacob Mort-Firth worked hard to restrict the visitors to a single try.

This was another good hard match played in a great spirit and appreciated by all who watched it.

Weatherby Bulldogs were the visitors for the u/14s game at Sharky park, they only had eleven players, and dispite going down by 74-0 one has to give them 100% credit for trying to go forward throughout the entire match.                                                                                                                          Try scorers for the Sharks were Joe Halloran (1),Declan Sheehan (2),Ryan Holland (1),Reece Nicholson (1),Nik Davis (1),Ben Lyles (2),Owen Lumb (1),Tom Foster (4),Scott Carter (1). Cameron Benson kicked  (9) goals.                                                                                                                       The Cross awards went to Top Tackler Billy Hartley, Star Achiver Isaac Haley, Most Improved Nik Davis, M/O/M was awarded to the whole team.

u12s hosted Dewsbury Celtic Saturday morning in the local derby match, the 1st 15mins was an arm wrestle as both teams were feeling each others play....but in wet slippery conditions the Sharks were patient and played their game plan effectivley to finally break down the Celtic defence with some slick handling and solid go forward. An all round complete team perforemance and gritty dtermined defence from the sharks held all that Celtic had to offer. 2 1st half tries from Tom Markland and Logan Stephenson and 2 further 2nd half tries following some great team links and set plays for Markland to finish with a Hatrick.

Final score Sharks 18 - Dewsbury Celtic 0.

Awards to Top Gun Freddy Mack, Gamebreaker Stephenson, Man of Steel Tom Ashen and the whole team shared Man of The Match with: Ashen, Mack, Elis Longstaff, Markland, Kamrren HArris, Stephenson, Joshua Pinder, Alex Griffiths, Levon Heaps, George McDermott, Cameron Neilson, Tenneson Neagle, JAck Flynn, HArvey Ramsden, Dan Cass & Jordan Civah-Kachimba.

A disappointing loss for the U15s at Queensbury 30-22 which followed a big day out at Wembley on the Saturday, the Sharks lacked energy and only came alive when chasing the game which was dominated by a very enthusiastic home side who fully deserved the result, some positives were debutant Declan Brereton scoring 2 cracking tries and a superb interplay between skipper Sam Ottewell and Luke Powell giving Ottewell a try but a lesson for the Sharks today you cant just turn up and win you have to earn it and credit to Queensbury who were enthusiastic and tough in defence, Ben D'Abreu put another hardworking effort in to take MOM with Harrison Pratt (winger) and Aiden Kay (stand off) embarrassing their forwards with non - stop defensive effort, The Sharks were good in possession but lacking today in defensive toughness and the result was a reflection of the performance which was lacking energy, this week training is Thursday 6-7 at Marks Gym Batley and Saturday 11am at Shaw Cross Fields. U15s are away at Hunslet Warriors this Sunday

U9s turned in an excellent performance at Heworth.

Despite conceding an early try, they hit back with second-half tries from Jack Burton and Elliot Watson to finish on top whilst maintaining a fantastic defensive effort.

MoM Jaden Barraclough had another superb game in attack and defence and was a constant threat with his speed and aggression. He was supported by Top Tackler Jack Burton who gave a great stint of quality tackling out on the left. Taylor Mail had an excellent game creating the first try and winning Magic Moment for it but was equally as strong in defence. Daniel Taylor made the hard yards down the middle to win the Special Effort award and Top Trainer was Dylan Goodward after another good week for him. Every boy followed the game plan well, which was to play simple rugby and run hard; Harrison Green, Kieran Smith, Wilson Martin, Fynnley Wilson, Luke Barlow, Josef Blythe, Kian Dickens, Liam Pickering, Ethan Harrington and Jacob Mort-Firth all stood up to be counted and were very organised in their defensive efforts. Elliot Watson won Opposition MoM.

A proper rugby game played in the usual great spirit, and all the boys were justifiably proud of what they achieved.

This was  defo one of our better displays of the year, defence was great and ball movement was fantastic which resulted in a fine 8-12 win.Oulton well and truly bitten by the sharks...well done lads keep it up:D
