First Aid Course for Junior Teams has been set up for WEDNESDAY 18th AUGUST at 7pm.
All Junior teams require a qualified first aider, can you confirm to either me or Alan Smith ASAP.
Sad to report the sudden passing of a former Shark last week, George Oglethorpe who played with the Sharks Open Age in the mid 80s died suddenly while swimming at Total Fitness Gym in Wakefield, George was a tough tackling back rower and in his earlier career had attracted attention from Wakefield Trinity where he played alongside Aidy Ripley for a while, the news was received at the club too late for his funeral which was earlier this week but a minutes silence will be held before the Summer Conference play- off game this Saturday v Bradford Victoria KO 2.30pm.
There will be a brief meeting at the club at 6 o'clock tomorrow (Wednesday) for anyone who has a child interested in playing for the under 7's this year,. Bring the kids along and hopefully we will have time to get some training done aswel.

Note to committees and all age groups. The RFL have confirmed that the old CRB forms are now "defunct", new forms are to be readily available from the end of July. Anyone requiring a enhanced CRB registration will have to wait until these are available. Suggest that a CRB registration night is held to re-sweep the club as required.

The ex-under 12s went to New Earswick gala on Saturday, winning 2 of the 3 games. They then played Lock Lane in the final, puting up a great show, but faded away in the second half and lost the game.We went with 14 players but lost one in the warm up when Charlie Willis fell knocking his thumb back and bursting his nose and was taken to the hospital, leaving us with no subs.
Congratulations to the Masters Touch Team for a good win in the Mens Health Comp beating Batley Boys in the Play Off 3-2, a great passing move saw Aidy Ripley turn the clock back and sprint in from 20 metres before Chris Squires went over from a superb Daz Senior ball switching play and putting out a great pass, Chris Squires scored the winner thanks to some really slick handling from Senior Ash Fothergill Mark Chapman and Trent Jordan leaving Squires a clear run in, it was a close game but the Sharks just had the edge and Troy Ashton lead the way with some direct running and great defence with hamstring victims John Lumb and Jonny Ripley heroically playing the best they could, Richard Patnelli went close several times and the Sharks have now been invited to play Batley Bulldogs Veterans Touch Side on August 1st as a curtain raiser to the Bulldogs home game against Keighley Cougars. Well Done Lads
Sharks Under 14s start pre-season training next Wednesday 21st July 5.30 - 7pm, new players welcome, lets all get there lads and get our training off to a good start with some skills and fitness work.
Under 8s played at Dewsbury Moor gala on Saturday and put up a tremendous performance. The 8 players who were able to attend tackled and ran like their lives depended on it, having to play 3 full games each with no spare players on the bench.
After convincingly defeating both Batley Boys and Dewsbury Moor 'B', they narrowly went down 4-3 to Dewsbury Moor 'A' who won it in the final minutes.
Every single one of the boys was a hero and it is sad that this was the last time that some of them will play together as 5 of them will become Under 9s next year and 3 remain as Under 8s.
To mention them all; Kieran Smith tackled ferociously and will be a big hit in next year's U8s. Kian Lister played his no-nonsense rugby to good effect with an all-action display. Josh Ramskill made the hard yards in every game and was a massive contributor to the team. Elliot Watson scored some rare tries whilst keeping up his big tackle count, Kieran Rush was tireless in his effforts and refused to leave the field in the last match despite taking a bad knock, such was his desire to help his team-mates. Elliott Richardson did his usual strong running and crashing tackles, and also scored a couple of superb long-range tries. Bradley Llewellyn was irrepressible as ever - copy-book tackling and elusive running to score several important tries. Wilson Martin played his first full games and was just as valuable a team member - making several good runs out wide and making a full defensive contribution.
They were all heroes and deserved all the praise they received - you did us all proud lads ! ![]()
magee has had his operation on his heart, and is out of intensive care. He's still feeling a bit rough but is hoping to be home on monday. Get better soon mate x
The Sharks Masters Touch and Pass side produced an outstanding performance in the Mens Health Touch Competition at Celtic outscoring Drighlington by 16 tries to 1, Hat Tricks for Mark Chapman and Jonny Ripley and 2 each for Richard Patelli and Jonny Bates helped the cause but a fine team effort saw Aidy Ripley, Gary Pollard, Daz Senior, Trent Jordan, Ash Fothergill and Mark Land also cross the whitewash, Troy Ashton worked hard despite a tight hamstring in a suberb exhibition of handling and support play, the competition ends next Friday with the Sharks awaiting to see who their opponents will be once all the evenings results are known.
Would like to thank all teams who attended the Gala on Saturday 3rd July. It was a great day of junior RL and good to see teams from other leagues participating. We hope that all who attended enjoyed themselves and luckily the weather was great. Thanks to all parents who helped out on the day and to the committee for all their hard work in planning and organising the event. The Sharks summer team came through a tough challenge against a big and very physical Scunthorpe side. We remain top of the league with three matches to play.

For those of you that have not been on this course I would strongley recomend it, it is also part of the CPD.
For those who attended last time around, that cert expires in September so maybe worth refreshing.
It is only £5 which the service area is heavily subsidising.

Under 8s went down 2 tries to nil at home to Cas Lock Lane, but the scoreline doesn’t tell the story of a very entertaining match played in scorching conditions.
Against a much bigger team, the young Sharks tackled and ran ferociously, led by Elliott Richardson who had one of his finest displays for the team and was always in the opposition’s faces to win Man Of The Match. Elliot Watson was Top Tackler with 21 big hits, many of which were one-on-one. Jacob Kitcher’s enthusiasm and attitude really helped the rest of the team and he richly deserved the Special Effort award. Wilson Martin won his first trophy – being awarded Top Trainer for some great efforts during the week and bringing that attitude on to the field today.
Again it is difficult to single out individuals as all the lads fronted up well and did what was asked of them.
Harrison Green made several fearless runs, Kieran Smith has come back from injury and made some solid tackles. Josh Ramskill was eager for work and ran the ball out of defence several times to make good yards. Robson Sutcliffe was his usual self and really looks like a stand out playmaker of the future, similarly Kieran Rush has really made the acting halfback role his own. Flynn Griffiths took more runs than of late and is starting to use his frame to good effect.
Bradley Llewellyn played despite illness and gave a strong display of cover tackling and elusive running despite this. Fynnley Wilson started on the bench but came on to play his part and was a valuable member of the defensive line.
Although that was the last league game of the season we do have 2 gala appearances coming up – firstly our own Gala on Saturday 3rd July, so please come down and support the 8’s 9’s and 10’s in what promises to be a great day.
u10s hosted Eastmoor Dragons this morning in their final game of the season, it was set to be a tough challenge against the strongest team in this group. With the young Sharks on the back foot straight from the kick off and all of the 1st half defending their line and not been able to break the solid Eastmoor defence. A 42 tackle stint on their on line was a massive ask from the boys and hoe they rallied and prevented Eastmoor a score is beyond believe!! 1/2 tim 0 - 0.
The 2nd 1/2 saw the Sharks gain some good field position 5mins after the break Gamebreaker Logan Stephenson some how jinked through the wall of Eastmoor defenders to open the scoring (converted). More pressure from the Dragons and a lot more defending from the sharks held strong again. The final couple of minutes went in the Sharks favour with a few repeat sets of their own camped on the visitors line but the Dragons again held strong and put on some massive tackles but on the 5th tackle quick thinking saw Man of Steel Levon Heaps scoot over for the Sharks 2nd try and the final play of the game. A magnificant display of courage and commitment from the boys and a desrved result for their non-stop efforts to close out the season 10 - 0!
Both myself and Mark are very proud of the team and they should relish in what they have acheived today!! The whole team of Kaylumb Williams, Tom Ashen, Elis Longstaff, Logan Stephenson, Jack Flynn, Alex Griffiths, Levon Heaps, Joshua Pinder, Luke Slack, Jamie Hartley, Jordan Flowers & Harvey Ramsden deservedly all Shared the MAN OF THE MATCH AWARD!!
Flynn shared Man of Steel & Ashen Top Gun, Griffiths was Trainer of the week!
Summer team match v Lincoln City Knights (26/6/2010) has just been called off. Lincoln cant raise a team.
Shaw Cross Sharks 58 - Leeds Akkies 12. Another superb performance by the Sharks summer team outplaying The Akkies in all departments. Next match is at home this Saturday to Lincoln City Knights kick off at 2.30pm.
Under 8s travelled to Castleford Panthers on Thursday evening and came away with a gritty win, 2 tries to 1.
The match was played on a very narrow pitch in difficult circumstances with the home team referee slowing the game at every play the ball, which frustrated the young Sharks and prevented any momentum being maintained.
However an exemplary defensive display and 2 excellent tries saw the lads through to a well deserved win.
Man Of The Match Bradley Llewellyn again excelled in his wing role, saving several tries with great tackles and scoring the first try by outpacing the defence into the corner. Kieran Rush scored the other try with his usual opportunism and agility – he was awarded Top Trainer this week for his great attitude.
Top Tackler went to Josh Ramskill who kept the other flank tight and let no-one past. He also made several good runs.
Special Effort was awarded to Jacob Kitcher, who has his best game for the team and really looks to be developing as a player. He was constantly in the faces of the Panthers, putting in a big defensive stint.
In truth all the boys really knuckled down to a great defensive display, and to only concede one try at this age in such circumstances was a notable achievement.
Harrison Green continued his recent form with several good runs and Kian Lister took the ball up aggressively to gain many yards. Elliot Watson was denied a try by the referee and also made several long runs. Robson Sutcliffe prompted and probed in his usual style and kept all the lads running forward. Flynn Griffiths played a long stint again and gave everything. Elliott Richardson had another tremendous game and was a mountain in defence. Jack Clay, Fynnley Wilson and Wilson Martin played off the bench and made just as big a contribution as the other lads.
To come away from such a difficult place with another win shows how determined the young Sharks really are. WELL DONE BOYS !

Under 8s shared the honours 6 tries each at Dewsbury Moor on Sunday.
Robson Sutcliffe was Man Of The Match, scoring 2 excellent tries and constantly pushing the team forwards. He was closely followed by Elliott Richardson who also scored 2 tries and ran some excellent angles to be a constant threat. He also made 17 solid tackles to be judged Top Tackler.
Elliot Watson had a fine game in attack and defence, highlighted by several strong wide runs, to be awarded Special Effort. Harrison Green has been showing a great attitude in training and really upped his involvement on the field today, to be judged Top Trainer.
Kieran Rush and Bradley Llewellyn also scored good tries and made several try-saving tackles between them.
Kian Lister, Josh Ramskill, and Jack Clay all ran with purpose and were keen to drive the ball up. Flynn Griffiths, Fynnley Wilson and Wilson Martin all benefited from longer game time today and contributed to the team effort.
Shaw Cross summer team are now 4 points clear at the top of the league after a superb display beating a well drilled Parkside Hawks 32 - 6.
Great day at paintball with under 12,s all enjoyed it ( hope lee mends quickly after breaking his ankle in 2nd get well soon from all the lads lee ![]()
