SHAW CROSS CLUB FOR YOUNG PEOPLE

Annual General Meeting, Thursday 10th December 2009 at 8.45 p.m.

Present: C.Smith chairman presiding, M.Turner vice chairman, A.Lancaster, R.Gooder, A.Myers, D.Myers, A.Fawkes, J.Holroyd, A.Stott, J.Stott, M.Myers, P.Catling, J.Stephenson, D.M.Hird, J.Salisbury

Apologies from A.Smith, D.Ellis, and A.Morgan.

The minutes of the last annual general meeting held on 26 February 2009 were read and signed as a true record, moved by D.Myers, seconded by J.Holroyd and carried.

Chairman’s Report. Chris Smith began by recording the death of one of their committee members and sponsors Peter Hinchliffe whose support for the club would be greatly missed. He also thanked Alan Lancaster for his long service as treasurer who had now stood down and Angie Myers had taken over the role.

On the playing front, the junior section was doing well, running eight teams from Under 8’s to Under 15’s. The Under 15’s had reached the final of the National Youth Cup and all the teams were maintaining the standards the club demanded. The youth section had teams at Under 16, 17 and 18 and the Open Age were running two teams.

In representative honours, three players, Tom Wall, Zac Johnson and Danny Rowse played for BARLA in the Ukraine, John Rourke for the National Conference League in France and Jonny Numa for the BARLA Bulldogs in Dubai.

The chairman thanked all coaches, players and voluntary helpers for their excellent work and support during the year and said: “We can never have enough volunteers” and their efforts were greatly appreciated.

The club’s French R.L.Exchange had celebrated its 40th tour during the year and he particularly thanked the French Committee and all the host families who had looked after the boys.

The chairman congratulated James Stott who had won the National Young Achievers Award for his work, setting up and running the club’s website.

The club, he said, was continuing “Reaching Forward” (its club motto) and was in a healthy state financially, despite the tough times of the recession. This was due to the continued work of the officials and supporters, not least Councillor Eric Firth whose work for the community was much appreciated.

Presentation of Balance Sheet and Accounts: The accountant, Richard Gooder presented the financial statement and said it was a satisfactory balance sheet and the club was in good order.  He thanked Alan Lancaster and Angie Myers for the way the accounts had been kept throughout the year. The club had been able to carry out important repairs and renewals to maintain the high standards of the club’s premises.

The report was moved by A.Fawkes, seconded by J.Holroyd and carried.

Election of Officials:

There were no nominations for any of the positions and the following were re-elected:

Chairman - Chris Smith

Vice Chairman - Mick Turner

Secretary - Douglas Hird

Treasurer - Angie Myers

The chairman recorded the thanks of the club to all sponsors, supporters and helpers.
