SHAW CROSS CLUB FOR YOUNG PEOPLE
ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING - Thursday 3rd April 2008 at 8.30 pm
Present: C.Smith chairman, P.Catling, D.Coates, M.Turner, P.Spivey, A.Myers, D.Myers, M.Hirst, K.Tebb, A.Ripley, A.Stott, A.Smith, J.Burland, S.Smith, A.Lancaster, R.Gooder, and D.M.Hird.
1. Apologies for absence D.Ellis, N.Walsh, G.Brook and D.Bradshaw
2. The minutes of the last annual general meeting held on 30th November 2006 were read and signed, moved by M.Turner, seconded by D.Myers and carried.
3. Chairman’s Report; Chris Smith said they had had another successful year and the club had just celebrated its diamond jubilee with a dinner at Dewsbury Town Hall. They had also taken eight coach loads of junior members and parents to the Super League Final atManchester. He also congratulated president Alan Lancaster on his award of the MBE and Douglas Hird on being inducted into the Rugby League Hall of Fame to mark his 60 years service to the game. Mr Smith said they currently had 10 teams in the junior section, each with some 20 players, as well as teams in the youth and Open Age section, which involved around 300 players and he congratulated all the coaches and helpers for their voluntary work throughout the year.
The French Exchange was continuing and the 38th tour had recently taken place which was a great achievement. Since the no smoking ban the club had been redecorated and new upholstery and curtains had been fitted. The club was held in high esteem and all could be proud of its achievements during its 60 years existence. He also thanked James Stott who had set up a fine website for the club and his continued work as editor of it.
4. Adoption of Balance Sheet and Accounts: Richard Gooder, accountant, presented and explained the balance sheet and accounts for the year under review which showed a profit. He reported the club was in a healthy position and in the good hands of the people who run the club.
The report was moved by A.Smith, seconded by A.Myers and carried.
5. Election of Officials: Chairman: Chris Smith re-elected unopposed
Secretary: Douglas Hird re-elected unopposed
Treasurer: Angie Myers elected from 1/7/08 when present treasurer Alan Lancaster retires.
Vice Chairman: Two nominations: Michael Turner and Malcolm Hirst. Following a ballot, M.Turner was elected.
A vote of thanks to all officials was given by Paul Spivey.
There being no further business, the chairman then closed the meeting. |
