Sharks take “great pride” in home form

By Stephen Ibbetson

Coach Wayne Stead speaks after Dudley Hill win

Shaw Cross Sharks assistant coach Wayne Stead said that his side take “great pride” in their home form after victory over Bradford Dudley Hill.

The Sharks climbed from bottom to 9th in the NCL Division 1 table after picking up a third successive home win on Saturday, in which braces from Thomas Stuckey and Shaun Squires, along with Ross Roebuck and Nathan Wright tries, helped to seal a 36-18 victory.

After the game Stead said that he was “pleased” to get the win, but admitted that it was a game of two halves.

“We’re pleased with the win, definitely,” he said. “When you’ve been on the run that we’ve had you take any win.

“Performance wise the first half was really good. Bradford Dudley Hill are a big side so it’s always a case if nullifying their big team and we did that really well.

“We didn’t get drawn into certain factors of the game, we just kept our composure and we scored some really good tries on the edges, which we always do.

“The second half turned into a scrappy match and the level of play was brought down. I think it’s quite easy when you’re winning for your performance to drop, especially a team that’s struggling a bit. And they had a man sent off so I think both team’s performance levels dropped.”

With the majority of the Sharks’ remaining fixtures coming on hope turf, Stead believes that things are looking positive as they look to avoid relegation.

“We take great pride in what we do at Shark Park. It seems we’ve been on our travels for quite a long time but now we’ve got another five home matches to go and six in total and the signs are positive.”
