East Leeds U16 girls v Sharks U16 girls
By Marc Dearn
First pre-season game
We travelled to East Leeds for the first of our Pre-League matches, and had a later than usual kick off time of 12:30.
The girls gathered at the Clubhouse to get changed and then took a short walk down the road to the match pitch.
The weather was very different to last week being cooler and very windy but, of course, much kinder than this time last year when the country was in the grip of the “Beast from the East”!!
Our girls had most of the possession for the first 10 minutes, but East Leeds defended well until Lily Mai Hirst made a good run and gained a lot of yards, after which Lauren Mowatt made a trade mark 40 yards plus run to score the first try of the match.
Courtney Marsh kicked the 2 points.
On 22 minutes Millie Dearn took the ball almost to the line before passing to Jess Harrap who scored our second try - Courtney again converted it.
Half Time: East Leeds 0 Sharks 12
The second half saw East Leeds have much more possession and they eventually scored and converted after a lot of pressure.
Our girls were playing a great passing game with the ball going from one wing to the other fluidly, this led to Maya Briggs scoring our third try. Unfortunately the try was not converted but a good attempt was made by Mya Taylor.
The East Leeds girls were now making run after run and, despite some good defence by the Sharks, were able to add two more trys to their score with one conversion.
Next game is at South Leeds on the 9th March
Looking forward to it already!
Final score East Leeds 14 Sharks 16
